Bonniebrook—The Home of Rose O’Neill
Bonniebrook—The
Home of Rose O’Neill. The Ozarks mansion, Bonniebrook,
is available for weddings, inside and outside with receptions up to 200.
The Ozarks mansion, Bonniebrook, was the favorite retreat
of Rose O'Neill, world-renowned artist, novelist, poet and creator of
the Kewpie Doll. It was at this location in 1909 that Rose drew the first
Kewpies.
They were tiny, shy creatures that came to symbolize love,
good cheer and good deeds. After capturing them on her easel she gave
them to the world through magazine stories, drawings and eventually in
nearly every medium available. Kewpies swept American and remain popular
after nine decades.
This National Historic Site has been restored and is open
for tours. The museum contains numerous original dolls, molds, books,
poems and artwork. Many Kewpie collectables and memorabilia as well as
a wide array of local artisan's works can be found in the gift shop.
Guests will also enjoy strolling the paved walkways through
the endless flower gardens and will delight over the waterfalls on a journey
through the tangles of Bonniebrook Park.
